Halloween is just around the corner, and it’s an incredibly fun time of year for makers.

Directions:

1. Gather materials and download and print Bat Pattern above.

2. Trace patterns onto Black felt with white pencil or use the freezer paper method to transfer patterns. Cut out two of each Bat (for front and back.)

3. Add eyes to two Bat fronts (two different shapes) by making French knots with White floss. I wrapped my floss around an extra time to get a bigger knot to make the eyes really stand out.

4. Pin front and back of both Bats together. To add dimension and detail, machine stitch two curved lines that form the body, then stitch around edges of wings. Leave top and bottom of Bat body open.

If a sewing machine is not available, details can be stitched by hand.

5. Place a dot of hot glue between front and back of Bat head to secure.

6. Cut pipe cleaner in half. Insert into bottom of Bat and hot glue in place. Add a dot of hot glue between front and back at top of Bat to secure.

7. Enclose headband in Black felt using this tutorial.

8. Wrap pipe cleaner ends around headband a couple of times to secure. The longer the wire, the more movement they have!

And that’s it! Look how fun! Put your festive headband on and see if you can resist the urge to wiggle those bats. (I’ll bet you can’t.) Happy Halloween!
