Grab your felt and embroidery floss, and let’s make something cool! (Get it? Cool!)
Skill Level: Intermediate
Time: 1 - 1 1/2 hours
Additional Supplies:
Bomb Pop Pattern (click to download)
Sewing machine
Ruler
Directions:
1. Cut out Bomb Pop pattern pieces. Trace each piece onto corresponding felt with a disappearing ink pen. Cut out. For Red circle that will become top of the ornament, cut felt circle slightly larger than the one you’ve traced from the patten.

2. When Red, White and Blue pieces are put together, they’ll form a curved wedge. Position Red piece slightly overlapping White and pin in place. Make sure White piece has 1" width visible all the way across.

3. Using three strands of Red embroidery floss (one full strand split in half), attach Red and White felt pieces with a running stitch.

4. Repeat this process with White and Blue pieces. Blue piece should have 1.25" width visible all the way across. Use three strands of White floss and a running stitch to sew pieces together.

5. If necessary, snip any extra felt along sides to create clean edges. No matter how carefully you measure or sew there’s always some, right?

6. Fold wedge in half, right side in, and machine sew along straight edge with a .25" seam allowance. Use perpendicular pins to hold seams in place so colors will line up evenly once sewn.

7. To prepare top for sewing, divide felt circle into eight equal segments with pencil. Mark top of the cone in a similar manner. Markings will ensure top is properly aligned once sewn and will not be visible once finished.

8. Starting at one corresponding set of markings, pinch felt circle and cone opening together and stitch around the top with a running stitch. To keep the top even, make sure marks on circle and opening line up as you stitch.

9. Turn right side out to reveal felt cone. If you'd like to add a string for hanging, add it now.

10. Now that you have a basic popsicle cone, it’s time to mark and stitch those signature Bomb Pop ridges! Fold cone flat and mark a 1.25” strip from lower part of Red section to bottom of Blue section. Use guide from the pattern or a measuring tape. Flip folded cone over and make same markings on the opposite side.

Fold cone flat in the other direction and repeat to make four 1.25” sections marked on the cone. These are the ridge lines.

11. Pinch fabric together to make first ridge stand up. With White thread, tack sides of ridge together, following along marked lines. You don’t want tight stitches, since Bomb Pop ridges are a gentle wave. This tacking will create channels, which will be stuffed in a later step.

12. Repeat Step 11 with remaining three ridges. You should now have four channels running up sides of the popsicle. It’s not particularly pretty, but what happens on the inside will not be visible on the finished pop!

13. Using a stuffing tool, fill each channel with Polyfil so ridges take and hold their shape. Don't pack it too tight - it’s better if the stitches don’t pull and dimple. Once all four channels are filled, stuff center of pop with Polyfil.

14. Glue two Tan felt pieces together to make popsicle stick and set aside to dry. Take wavy Blue felt piece and pin it into place base of pop.

15. Keeping edges aligned, pinch bottom edge and base of pop together. Attach with three strands of Blue floss and a running stitch to mimic stitching on other sections of pop.

16. If any need tweaking is needed in terms of shape, use White thread to add tiny stitches to pull everything together.

17. Cut a small slit in base. Start small and widen if needed. Feed felt popsicle stick into opening. Use tacky glue to secure.

You are DONE! And look how cute!! Now go grab yourself a real popsicle. You deserve it.
