We've got a treat for you today! Maker Team Member Chelsea of @the_creativ.e.xplorer has created a delicious new tutorial for felt Fruit Popsicles. The fruit details on these summer snacks really takes felt food to a whole new level. They are also a great way to brush up on basic embroidery and needle felting skills! We can't think of a better way to get through a hot summer day.
My kids are often my inspiration for my projects! When designing these popsicles, my intention was to make something interactive for my kids to add to their play kitchen. These can be created without any fruit and are still just as fun, but this beautiful color palette was screaming to add all the summery fruits to the design! You can make one or the whole set of seven. These popsicles are the perfect addition to any play kitchen in such a fun and fresh summer color palette!
Skill Level: Beginner (plain) to Intermediate (with fruit)
Time: About 1 - 1 1/2 hours, per popsicle
Additional Supplies:

Popsicle Sticks
Directions:
Popsicle Construction
1. Download and print templates. Trace and cut out each pattern piece from felt.

Additionally, cut two 2 x 2" pieces of Willow and two 1 x 2" pieces of Wasabi felt for Watermelon popsicle.

2. Pin Willow felt to Watermelon popsicle bases. Pin each pair of matching popsicle bases together. Watermelon popsicles should have right sides facing with Willow felt sandwiched between.

3. Machine sew each popsicle along bottom edge and around popsicle stick pocket. If you are making plain popsicles, skip to Step 13.

4. Using pins or a very small amount of fabric glue, place fruit pieces on right sides of the popsicle. Note that the Wasabi piece left from the Watermelon popsicle is placed underneath Willow piece.

5. Trim off fruit pieces that hang over popsicle base.

6. Using a whip stitch and coordinating DMC floss, attach each fruit piece to the popsicle. This could also be done using a sewing machine or fabric glue depending on the desired finished look.

Popsicle Details
7. Peach - Mark stitch placement on fruit pieces with disappearing ink pen. Use six strands of DMC 352 to stitch over markings with a short and long stitch.

8. Pineapple - Mark stitch placement. Use six strands of DMC 10 to stitch over markings with a straight stitch.

9. Kiwi - Mark stitch placement. Use one strand of DMC 10 to stitch over markings.

Use one strand of DMC 310 to add French knots for the seeds.

10. Watermelon - To cut down fabric layers you are sewing through, flip popsicle to raw side and cut Hibiscus fabric above the machine stitch and below the bottom whip stitch.

Mark stitch placement on rind. Use six strands of DMC 3364 to stitch over markings with a chain stitch. Mark seed placement and use one strand of DMC 310 to attach Graphite sequins. As an alternative to stitching, you can use sequin glue for this step.

11. Lime + Orange - Mark center of each citrus. Use White wool roving and needle felting tools to attach roving over center.

Mark lines on each citrus to create eight segments. Use two strands of DMC 10 to backstitch over markings.

12. Dragonfruit - Draw an outline just inside each piece. Use White wool roving and needle felting tools to attach roving inside border.

Use one strand of DMC 310 to add French knots for the seeds.

Popsicle Assembly
13. Fold each popsicle right side out and insert a popsicle stick into pocket. This will simplify the stuffing process.

14. With two strands of coordinating floss, blanket stitch around perimeter. Stop stitching at top of the popsicle stick pocket.

15. Stuff popsicle using a stuffing tool. As you stuff around the stick pocket, add stuffing to both sides of pocket so popsicle stick stays centered. Finish blanket stitching closed.

Your own set of refreshing fruit popsicles are ready to enjoy!
