Gift Card Holders for Teachers

Class is in session with new Maker Team member Ashley of @ashleylewiscreates! Ashley designed felt Thank You Note and Crayon Gift Card Holders to make with your children for end of school gifts. Of course, these designs are also perfect for graduation, teacher appreciation week or celebrating good grades! She's given instructions for both designs below and we can't decide on a favorite. Can you?

Teachers work so hard every day to help their students learn and they deserve to be thanked! They might not need another mug, but they would sure appreciate a gift card - extra credit for one from Benzie! Slide your gift card into one of these cute sleeves paired with a letter or picture from your student and your gift is sure to be the teacher's favorite.

Directions:

1. Download and print one or both gift card patterns above. Print and cut out pieces as directed. For back pieces with cutout, trace inside edge onto felt with erasable Frixion pen to cut center out precisely.

Thank You Note

2. With a ruler (or straight edge) and Frixion pen, draw one vertical line and repeated horizontal lines as shown to mimic notebook paper.

3. Use two strands of DMC 3833 to backstitch along vertical guideline. Use two strands of embroidery floss for all stitching unless noted.

4. Backstitch along horizontal guidelines with DMC 932.

5. Write a short message on felt "paper" with Frixion pen. Have student write in their own handwriting for extra cute personalization! Backstitch along handwriting with DMC 310.

6. Use DMC 760 to make two lazy daisy stitches with the same starting point to create a heart.

7. Use heat (blow dryer or iron) to remove marks from Frixion pen.

Proceed to Step 12 to finish Thank You Note gift card holder.

Crayon

8. Write message on small oval using Frixion pen. Backstitch or whip stitch along handwriting with two to three strands of DMC B5200. Use heat to remove marks from Frixion pen.

9. Pin Red strip across base of crayon point as shown. Attach with a line of backstitch in DMC 321 along top edge of strip.

10. Pin Strawberry rectangle directly below Red strip. Center and pin embellished oval piece on rectangle. Backstitch around oval through all layers using DMC 321.

11. Pin Black felt strips about 1/2" from top and bottom of Strawberry rectangle (crayon wrapper.) Backstitch along top and bottom edges of each with DMC 310.

Continue to Step 12 to finish Crayon gift card holder.

Assembly

12. Center clear vinyl inside felt window. Pin (or clip) felt and vinyl together. Select a coordinating floss and backstitch around window opening to secure.

13. Pin front and back pieces together. Trim any edges, if necessary, and blanket stitch around three sides, leaving upper edge open to insert gift card.

You're finished! Your student's teacher (or other lucky recipient) is going to feel so loved when they receive this cute gift card sleeve!

There are so many ways to make this gift feel personal. Let your child draw a picture on the Thank You Note and then stitch over the drawing. Or make the Crayons in assorted colors for each recipient. If you add a magnet to the back of the gift card holder, the teacher will have a gift card and a cute decoration for their room!
