Looking for a sweet and simple way to celebrate Valentine’s Day? These heart-shaped sachets from Maker Team member Belinda of @brdgirl are the perfect beginner-friendly project. The sachets are quick to make, endlessly customizable, and ideal for an enjoyable afternoon project. Whether you’re creating gifts for friends, adding a touch of charm to your home, or just indulging in a little creative time, this tutorial is designed with you in mind.

With the Stitchable Nesting Hearts deep etch die, cutting perfectly shaped hearts is effortless. Add embroidery or embellishments, stitch them together with an accent color, or choose printed felt for extra flair (my personal favorite!) Fill your sachets with soothing dried lavender or your favorite potpourri, and you’ve got a handmade gift that smells as lovely as it looks. Ready to create your own heart-shaped sachet? Gather your supplies, find a comfy workspace, and let’s make something fragrant and beautiful! With just a few simple steps, you’ll have a handmade treasure that’s perfect for Valentine’s Day and beyond.

Additional Supplies:

Die Cutting Machine
Tulle Fabric
Double-sided Tape
Paintbrush
Dried Lavender or Potpourri

Directions:

1. Use the second largest heart (3 3/4") in the Stitchable Nesting Hearts die set to cut four hearts from tulle fabric. Visit this Die Cutting tutorial for tips.

As an alternative to die cutting, trace a heart 3 3/4" wide onto cardstock to create a template. Trace onto tulle and cut out.

2. Place 3 3/4" heart die onto cutting mat and center 2 1/4" heart die inside. Use double-sided tape to hold dies in place. Place printed felt over dies and run through cutting machine to create a felt heart with a heart shaped opening. Repeat for a second "open" heart.

Save cut-out center heart for a small ornament, embellishment or gift tag!

3. Use a paintbrush or foam brush to spread Tacky Glue on the back of each open heart. Keep glue close to center of hearts, being mindful not to cover stitching holes.

4. Line up and secure tulle hearts on glue. Use two layers on each heart to keep small bits of lavender or potpourri inside the sachet. Edges will be trimmed later. Allow to dry.

5. Use a running stitch and three strands of embroidery floss to sew front and back of heart together. Visit this Sewing with Stitchable Dies tutorial for tips. Leave a 1" opening on flat side of heart for filling.

6. Fill with dried lavender or your favorite potpourri. Use a stuffing tool to push filling in place, being mindful not to push through tulle.

7. Finish stitching heart closed. If using a running stitch, make a return trip, filling in open spaces.

8. Use sharp scissors to trim any excess tulle around the perimeter.

Now it’s your turn to make these heart-shaped sachets uniquely yours! Experiment with different felt colors, printed patterns or embroidery stitches. Add beads, sequins, or a pop of metallic thread. There’s no wrong way to make these hearts shine. Let your creativity lead the way!

Once you’ve made one, you won’t want to stop - create a few (or ten!) to gift to friends, tuck into drawers, or keep around the house for a lovely hint of fragrance. Handmade hearts are the perfect way to share a little love this Valentine’s Day. Happy creating!
