Hearts and bows, Xs and Os! Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and what better way to warm your heart than a cozy quilt-inspired project? Maker Team member Kelly of @bykellyjo has designed these Valentine Felt Quilt Blocks to bring warmth and whimsy to your home. Make one as a mini wall hanging or make several and string them into a festive garland. Either way, you're going to love the result!
I’ve designed four felt quilt blocks in a berry sweet color palette. Not only do you have a choice of four designs, you can also easily mix and match colors to really make this project your own! These blocks come together with simple felt shapes and a few basic embroidery stitches making them a quick, beginner friendly project.
Skill Level: Beginner
Time: 1 hour per block
Additional Supplies:
Valentine Felt Quilt Blocks Template and Color Guide (click to download)
Felt Hearts in Peony - optional
Safety Pin
Directions:
1. Download and print Valentine Felt Quilt Blocks Template and Color Guide above. Cut out templates and trace shapes onto designated felt color using a heat erasable pen. Cut out.

2. For each Quilt Block design, use a running stitch with two strands of embroidery floss to sew top design pieces onto Quilt Block Back. Begin by placing pieces along the bottom edge, then work upward toward top of the quilt block.

3. Once top pieces are secured, there should be an extra 1/2" of felt at top of the block. Fold over extra felt to the back.

4. On back side of block, use a whip stitch with two strands of embroidery floss to secure bottom of the flap. Leave flap sides open and only stitch along bottom edge to create a channel. Place stitches carefully so they do not show through to front.

5. To add a string for hanging, cut pearl cotton to appropriate length - 12" for a single block or 60" for an eight block garland. Tie one end of string to a closed safety pin, then feed safety pin and attached string through back channels.

6. For hanging a single block, tie two ends of the string together and slip knot into channel to hide.

7. For stringing several blocks, add desired number and space to your preference. As an optional detail, include heart poms between blocks. You will need to switch from a safety pin to a needle between each block in order to string poms.

Once you are happy with the look of your wall hanging or garland, it's time to put it on display for Valentine’s Day!

If you loved this project, grab your favorite Benzie felt and make some more in another colorway. Or spread the love and send one (or several) to your Valentine! XO
